Reading Transport History

Reading Transport has a history going back over 100 years, with some expansion along the way - the below are some of the highlights along the way (This will be completed over the coming weeks)

1878 - Reading Tramways Company formed
1901 - 1st November - Reading Borough Corporation took over, and renamed the company Reading Corporation Tramways
1903 - 22nd July - Electric Trams Introduced
1904 - September - Parcels Service Introduced
1919 - 6th December - First Motorbus Service
1936 - 18th July - Trolleybuses Introduced
1939 - 20th May - Electric Trams Ceased
1966 - 31st May - Parcels Service Ceased
1968 - 3rd November - Trolleybuses Ceased
1975 - 12th October - Alder Valley services to Woodley and Twyford taken over
1992 - Reading and Newbury operations of The Bee Line taken over
1998 - Reading Mainline taken over
2018 - Reading Buses brought Weavaway's Newbury and District
2019 - Reading Buses expand once again, Courtney Coaches will become a part of the Thames Valley brand.
